Merthyr Farm is situated opposite the church in the small hamlet of Morvah. We are on the north coast, midway between St Ives and Lands End, but off the coastal road in a quiet location. Penzance is just 6 miles away on the south coast so most places and attractions in West Cornwall are very accessible. There is a bus stop nearby but we would recommend a car for greater freedom. However the coastal bus is a great asset for walkers as you can ride out and walk back to Morvah or vice versa! Also a trip without the car to St Ives or Lands End is possible and the coastal bus route is deemed to be one of the most scenic in Britain.
This district of Penwith has been designated as an Environmentally Sensitive Area and one of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The dramatic cliff scenery can be viewed from the Coastal
Path, which crosses our cliffland and can be easily reached by footpath from the village. It is also a wonderful place to view one of our spectacular sunsets. Inland there are several lovely moorland walks and many interesting historical sites and stones to visit; the Men-an-Tol, Lanyon Quoit, Chun Castle and Chun Quoit all being within walking distance.
Our local beach, Portheras Cove, is also close by and, as it is only accessible on foot, is quite secluded and usually quiet.
The Morvah Schoolhouse Gallery is just around the corner from the cottages and always has an interesting display of local arts and crafts as well as a little tea room.
Morvah parish remains unspoilt and, although we have been welcoming visitors here at Merthyr Farm for over 50 years, the general concensus is that it remains virtually unchanged!
